Introducing Carpool Coasters

Go Beyond Racing is always looking for ways to make our races more environmentally friendly. We are cupless at our aid stations; we use compostable flatware, silverware, and napkins; we recycle and compost a lot of garbage from our events; we donate to organizations that work to improve forests and trails; we are members of 1% for the Planet; we have reusable cups for race morning coffee; and are very conscious about purchases in order to reduce waste. Now we are targeting carbon emissions with our Carpool Coasters!

Beginning with the Smith Rock Ascent this year, we are encouraging more runners to carpool to races with our new Carpool Coaster program. If you’ve finished one of our ultras, you know we give out finisher pint glasses. Now, if you carpool to a race, and prove it on Instagram, we will reward you with a custom race coaster to go with your finisher glass.

How Carpool Coasters Work

This is a simple and fun program. Every runner who carpools to a race just needs to take a photo of them carpooling (get creative!), post the photo to Instagram before arriving at the race and use the following hashtags in their post: #carpoolcoaster #gobeyondracing #roddapaint. Show us that Instagram post at the merchandise tent, and you’ll walk away with a sweet wood coaster with the race logo, to go with your finisher glass.

That’s it. Pretty simple. And fun. And some incentive to do good for the Earth.

So if you are planning to run any of these races, start planning your carpool and #carpoolcoaster photo now.

This program is sponsored by Rodda Paints. Rodda has been making paint here in the northwest since the 1930s. They think trail runners are pretty cool and wanted to support what you do. Next time you are in need of interior or exterior paint, check out their northwest-inspired Cascadia color palette.
