Note for 2026, we are flipping the 50-mile course. Runners will head south first, to the Warm Springs aid station. Then return to the Ranger Station before going north to Frog Lake aid station and then back to the finish at the Ranger Station.
The heavily shaded course is an out and back almost entirely on the Pacific Crest Trail. The trail is generally soft with good footing, although there are some technical sections with rocks and roots.
Total elevation gain is approximately 5,400 feet. Total distance is 50 miles (see aid station chart below for details)

The course is a two-way, out-and-back. The race starts out from the Clackamas Lake Historic Ranger Station, heading south on the Miller trail to connect with the famous Pacific Crest Trail. You have a big-ish climb (almost 1000′) to the Red Wolf aid station and then a steeper descent. Then it is a smaller climb up to the Warm Springs aid station, crossing the Warm Spring river before you get there. You return back the exact way you came. Most of this part of the race is on the Warm Springs Reservation and once you hit the PCT, you stay on it. There is a lot of tree cover, but you will have a few exposed sections, but you’ll be going through them in the morning hours.
You get pumped up by the crowds (and your crew if you have one) at the Ranger Station aid station and then you head out the other direction, again on the Miller trail to connect to the PCT by Timothy Lake. You run along the lake’s eastern edge, staying on the Pacific Crest Trail the whole way, passing the Forest Road 58 aid station and then getting those stunning and iconic Mt. Hood views several times before reaching the Frog Lake aid station. There are many wild pink Rhododendrons along the trail too. You’ll turn back around and return to the Ranger Station to finish your race the same way you came.
Aid stations are stocked with Precision Fuel gels, Precision Hydration electrolyte drink, water, soft drinks, PB&Js, potato chips, pickles, Fritos, gummy bears, Oreos, fruit, Fig Newtons, M&Ms, and other ultra fare. Please bring your own aid and utilize your drop bags if you have special needs.
Go Beyond Racing is cupless. You’ll need to bring your own cup for liquid aid at all aid stations. You can refill bladders and bottles too. Read more about what it means to be cupless.

There are two cutoffs. Runners must leave the Ranger Station Aid Station by 11:30 a.m. (mile 21.6). The second cutoff is at the Frog Lake Aid Station (mile 35.8) at 3:00 p.m.
If you miss the 3:00 pm cutoff, you will return to the Ranger Station (start/finish area) with the aid station volunteers when the close down the aid station.
Racers are allowed one drop bag at the Ranger Station aid station. There are no other drop bags for this race.
Place your drop bags in the designated drop bag area, the morning of the race.
Here are some best practices and restrictions around the size, quantity, and contents for Go Beyond Racing races: drop bag etiquette.

Crews and spectators may only access their runners at two aid stations: Start/Finish and Forest Road 58. Crews are not allowed at any other aid stations and runners with crew at Frog Lake/Hwy 26, Red Wolf or Warm Springs will be disqualified.
Directions to Forest Road 58 Aid Station: Leaving the Start/Finish area, go north on Hwy 42. Four miles back up Hwy 42, toward Hwy 26, you turn left onto Forest Road 58. Please drive slowly and carefully as this road has potholes. Go approximately 5.3 miles down FR 58 to where the PCT crosses this road. FR 58 is paved and goes straight out (no turns), don’t turn down any gravel or paved side roads.
Our USFS permits strictly limit the number of runners on the trails so pacers are not allowed.
