What You Do

Volunteering for a 200-mile can be as exhausting as it is rewarding. You will absolutely make a difference in whether people finish this race or not. There are three types of work you can sign up for:

Aid Stations: Each has a captain who is responsible for the overall operation of that aid station and is physically at the aid station for the duration. The other volunteers are there for shifts that range in time from x hours to x hours. You can sign up for more than one shift if you like. If you do want to work multiple shifts or different aid stations, please factor in time to sleep outside of your shift. Aid station volunteers are assisting runners as they come through. This involves:

  • Retrieving and returning drop bags
  • Preparing and serving food
  • Minor medical care (mainly blisters and foot maintenance)
  • Monitoring nap times for racers
  • Coordinate with crew when runners drop

Start/Finish/Race Headquarters (Greenwaters Park, Oakridge): Thursday involves set up, bib pickup, selling and handing out merchandise, and parking. Friday morning has parking and tracking device distribution tasks. There are shifts to monitor runners and coordinate with HAM radio operators throughout the race.

Sweepers: There are many sweeper shifts. You’ll run/walk behind the last racer, and depending on what section you are sweeping, retrieve course markings as you go. Previous sweeping experience for Go Beyond Racing is preferred.

What You Get:

In addition to all the feels from helping people do something they didn’t think they could, by volunteering at the Oregon 200 you’ll get:

  • Race credit good at any Go Beyond Racing race equal to $10/hour for your shift(s). Aid station captains race credit calculation is $15/hour. Credits are good for one year from date of issue and are non-transferrable. – OR – You can choose to donate the value of the race credit to one of the race beneficiaries.
  • Oregon 200 hoody & of course Go Beyond Racing socks
  • Post-race brunch
  • Invitation to the annual Volunteer Party
  • Massive Karma points
