The changes:

  1. We are anticipating that we won’t have the 50-miler at the Wy’east Wonder due to the Grasshopper fire burning parts of the course this summer. We are modifying the 50K and 50K Relay course to avoid the burnt/closed area and are adding a Half Marathon distance. It is also moving a week earlier. We have not updated the website about this yet but will as soon as we have things more locked in.
  2. Firelane Trail Trial is moving to a different firelane – details coming soon.
  3. Stumptown is a Saturday-Sunday event now. No race on Monday, Memorial Day.
  4. Wood You Rather Checkpoint Race is moving to September (but staying at Mt. Tabor).
  5. We’re still considering which direction to do the Mt Hood 50-miler in (north first like usual or south first like we did this year)

Oregon 200. Last year’s race was halted mid-way through due to a lightning strike that started a fire, that burned onto the course. Only five people had completed it at that point, and everyone else was evacuated from the course, some less than 20 miles from the finish line. Utterly heartbreaking. We had to cancel the 2024 edition less than a month before the race due to a fire. There was smoke the night before the 2023 race. Part of our original route that included Bunchgrass Ridge between Waldo Lake and Oakridge burned. Forest fires are making Pacific Northwest summer races risky, especially the super-ultra distances where runners and volunteers are out for days.

We’ve had plenty of encouragement and prodding to create another course somewhere else since the Oakridge area is just so fire prone. Coming up with a new route that has the features important to us and our runners (i.e. easily crew-accessible, not a lot of road or gratuitous miles, beginner-friendly, scenic) takes a significant amount of time and effort. We put our heads down and our feet onto some new trails and started developing a 200-miler for 2027 that we were stoked about. But guess what? Part of it burned this summer! We know better than to never say never. However, the Oregon 200 is resting in peace for the foreseeable future*. For those who were loyally holding out to run our 200, we encourage you to find another race and go get it done.

So let’s finish up this 2026 race season in a big way; maybe with a new PR, new distance, or on some new-to-you trails, and then we can get serious about next year.

*We have drastically slashed prices on all remaining Oregon 200 merchandise. Get a great hoody for cheap.

As always, every race is conditional on the permitting agencies approving our plans. Many of our events have multi-year permits and we do not anticipate any issues with getting our races approved.
