As we’ve been offering for years, again in 2023, the Friend Refund is available to those who don’t get picked in the Mt. Hood 50-mile lottery or the Mountain Lakes 100 lottery, when their friend does.
We understand that many people take on these longer distances with friends. A running buddy makes the training easier, holds you accountable, and can reduce some anxiety about completing a bigger goal. Plus is it just fun to have your friend alongside you. As long as there is a wait list after the lottery drawing, runners who were drawn but their running buddy wasn’t, can request a refund of their registration fee and any pre-ordered merchandise.
Please follow this process to request the Friend Refund:
Registration for the 50-miler opens on January 1st and closes at 6:00 p.m. PT on the 13th. The drawing happens, live, on Go Beyond Racing’s Instagram account, on Sunday the 15th. People can also attend the drawing in person at the Skyline Tavern. Registration reopens on Monday the 16th, which is also when the 50K and 25K distances open (which are not lotteries).
Registration for the Mountain Lakes 100 lottery is January 9-20 (closes at 6:00 p.m. on the 20th). The drawing is on Sunday, the 22nd and you can watch live on Go Beyond Racing’s Instagram. The entrants list is posted to Ultrasignup that day, and registration reopens on Monday, January 23.
For all the people who are not drawn in the lotteries, there’s still a good chance to race. Everyone’s name is placed on a wait list, in random order. When someone in the race cancels, that open spot is offered to the first person on the wait list. Your credit card is not charged unless and until you accept the invitation to move off the wait list. We continue inviting people from the wait lists until race registration closes.
