Camp Lug-A-Chug

This is the weekend that we hike water up to the aid stations on the mountain. The Volcanic course is not accessible by vehicle, so all aid station supplies are brought in on the backs of the volunteers. Water is heavy, so we get as much as we can up there ahead of the race, so that the race day volunteers can take in the food and other supplies.

You can volunteer Saturday, or Sunday, or both days. We meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Marble Mountain Sno Park (lower parking lot) and caravan to the Ape Canyon, Butte Camp, and Toutle aid station trailheads. We cook up a pretty good post-hike feast for everyone when we return each day.

To make it more interesting, we’ll award a free race entry to the following year’s Volcanic to the person who carries the most weight, compared to their body weight, each day. And new this year, we adding another free entry to the person who carries the most total weight combined over both days.

Camping in the parking lot and the surrounding area is available. We’ll hang out in the evening, play some cards around the firepit, and have a good time. If you are camping, you’ll need to bring all your own gear and food and water for that… for breakfasts and if you’re still hungry after the hike feast.

Each hike is about 9.5 miles round-trip and 2,000′ of gain. We have large packs to lend. Bring poles if you have them as they are helpful.
