New for 2019, the Smith Rock Ascent races are happening over two days, and not on Mother’s Day weekend. These changes will allow more runners to race.
There are three distances to choose from; a 50K, 15-Miler, and 4-Miler. There are also free Kids Fun Runs both days, for the littles.
All races start and finish on the grassy area near the visitor center at the Smith Rock State Park. The 50K take runners around the infamous rock faces and Crooked River before sending them out to the National Grasslands in a lollipop-style course. The 15-milers head out along the river, up Burma Road, and then up the calf-burner Gray Butte before running down the other side and back to the start/finish area. The 4-mile course is no joke as racers ascend Misery Ridge where they have amazing views, including of Monkey Face, before coming down and around by the river to the finish.
The 50K is on Saturday. The 15M and 4M are on Sunday.
